H<\/span>aving travelled so many underground networks demands a little r\u00e9sum\u00e9, doesn’t it? And since r\u00e9sum\u00e9s shouldn’t be all-too sentimental I thought that categories, each ranking the most interesting five networks, would be best. Of course I will update the ranking (as per January\u00a02016) the way other subway networks will come across my camera :-) Also some records should be mentioned, shouldn\u2019t they?<\/p>\n

Design and\u00a0Appearance<\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. Moscow<\/a><\/strong> – The Queen of subways and its underground palaces where photography is still kind of prohibited due to a Communist law to protect infra-structure. It seduces with typical Soviet iconography and the worldwide known typical Russian-way of metro construction.<\/li>\n
  2. Stockholm<\/strong><\/a> – Even if half of the\u00a0stations\u00a0are a\u00a0daylight thing,\u00a0the subsurface\u00a0sections are unique\u00a0eye\u00a0catchers having a typical Scandinavian\u00a0charm.<\/li>\n
  3. Berlin<\/a><\/strong> – Creators like\u00a0Alfred Grenander<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Rainer R\u00fcmmler<\/a>\u00a0shaped\u00a0the 146 kilometres long Berlin U-Bahn in a\u00a0historic-technically interesting as well as unusually\u00a0jazzy-modern\u00a0way.<\/li>\n
  4. Prague<\/a><\/strong>– A dream when it comes to Soviet-type\u00a0tube constructions\u00a0that is everything but boring due to colouration and design. Also among the\u00a0stations of recent date you can find some\u00a0jaw droppers.<\/li>\n
  5. Lisbon<\/a><\/strong> – Portugal’s capital metro is the living proof that side platforms can be everything but boring as it is clean and passionately designed by the use of details as well as most diverse architectural eyecatchers.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Cleanliness\u00a0and\u00a0Clarity<\/h3>\n
      \n
    1. Warsaw<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0– Again Moscow is in the lead. An almost extraterrestrial punctuality plus incredibly clean marble floor as well as interactive electronic station and metro maps leave nobody behind.<\/li>\n
    2. Warsaw<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0– Of course\u00a0recently built\u00a0stations\u00a0are\u00a0always\u00a0tidier\u00a0but the\u00a0Polish\u00a0metropolitans\u00a0also keep an\u00a0eye\u00a0on not littering\u00a0and\u00a0signposting\u00a0is no problem\u00a0for foreigners\u00a0straight away.<\/li>\n
    3. Glasgow<\/a><\/strong> – People getting lost on a single circular line, well,\u00a0can’t help them\u00a0;-) In terms of tidiness\u00a0the Scotts put up a\u00a0ban on\u00a0alcohol\u00a0vaulting Glasgow among the Top 5.<\/li>\n
    4. Vienna<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0– An\u00a0underground\u00a0that scores\u00a0at\u00a0understandability as well as\u00a0cleanliness\u00a0as it’s pretty\u00a0functional.<\/li>\n
    5. Budapest<\/a><\/strong> – Having four lines\u00a0only\u00a0allows no\u00a0disorientation\u00a0despite\u00a0cryptic Hungarian language\u00a0and the\u00a0historically\u00a0important\u00a0F\u00f6ldalatti line\u00a0is in a very good shape since the\u00a01970’s\u00a0and despite Communism.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
